Today I met mum in the city and we had coffee, and then a bit of a window shop, before I went to work.
Totally exciting though, when I got back, the Maitland tartan skirts we'd ordered had turned up! woohoo! this tartan is restricted, which means you have to prove that you're part of the clan before you are allowed to buy it. My mum bought a kilted skirt (which is a wrap around skirt with a flat front, called an apron, real leather buckles to do it up, and pleats at the back - it uses a lot less wool than a real kilt, but looks exactly the same. Kilts are way heavier, warmer, and more expensive!).
I got a high waisted straight skirt - I thought I'd be more likely to wear it to work and stuff - kilts can look a bit too much like a school uniform!
Here it is:
To be quite honest, I think the colour scheme is kind of ugly, but it belongs to my family, so I am proud to wear it. (Maitland clan represent!)
I also did a teensy tiny bit of shopping after I got off work. I bought -
My favourite shampoo, Elvive re-nutrition (mostly cos it smells like honey) and a country road zip-up bag that matches my makeup bag. I'm using it for all my hair stuff - bobby pins, hair ties, clips, and putting it inside my makeup bag:
Aaaand, I also bought a fairly stiff, pointed paintbrush to use for eyeliner. I think willum licked my last one, so all the hairs stick out at weird angles, and the disposable one I got from the MAC counter has too few hairs, so it takes ages to apply a reasonably thick line. Anyway. I got my dad to chop it off kind of short so I can get in close to the mirror, and he used a file to shape it off (aww, thanks dad!) I painted over the cut end with berry coloured nail polish:
Anyway. Now I'm sitting around waiting for my uni results to be released - sometimes they release them early so I'm waiting on the estudent website, refresh, refresh, refresh... boring!
Ciao voxies!
Okay. Assignment - handed in, that means I am officially waiting for my results, and have nothing more to hand in!
I'm not sure what is worse, having uni work still to do, or waiting for results. I think maybe waiting for results is worse. Anyway! The semester is over! yay!
Today I was editing my assignment, (and by editing I mean, adding huge slabs of new research) and Willum was sitting there, looking out the window, looking glumly at the sunny garden. I know he hates going out there by himself, so I ended up packing up all my things, grabbing a cup of green tea, my laptop, a usb drive with my assignment word file, and sitting out there with him. It's funny, it's beautiful, clear weather, but unbelievably cold. At least I was in the sun and there was no breeze! and Willum enjoyed himself, which is of course the main point.
I got this funny photo of him eating the strawberry plants.
After I handed my assignment in, I walked up the road and got Angels and Demons from the secondhand bookshop. It's already a little bit different from the movie. I'm enjoying it so far.
And now I'm sitting inside with the heater on, having a glass of red, thinking about what I'm going to make for dinner, with a full weekend without pressure or responsibility stretching out before me. Bliss.
Ciao voxies!
I bought it! I bought the bag! This is a good week for buying, I can tell. I'm hoping to get my mini notebook laptop this weekend as well, before my parents bugger off to Europe.
Anyway.
Here is the bag. I think I figured out why I'm so attached to it - it kind of reminds me of huge piles of dusty, matching luggage in adventure movies, where they're all wearing beige and panama hats and treking through deserts. My mum actually laughed and said she felt the same way about it - it reminded her of a bag my grandparents had.
Yup. A dependable bag! A bag you could stow a body in and airport staff would be non-the-wiser. Or shoes - you know, whichever I'd be more likely to need in Italy! haha!
anyway. Here it is:
It feels good to be pretty much on top of things, I was really stressed for a while there, I really don't have much time these days and looking at my diary, my boss has asked me to do extra days at work in the nextcouple of weeks since we have a few events at work and they need some extra help - which means less time to complete these assignments! eek! but a good portion of the work is done now so yay!
But now, back to work!
Just a few things in a semi-mid week post!
Tuesday I was at work, nothing all that exciting happened, and wednesday the computer fixing guy came and sorted out my desktop... omg I'd forgotten how much I loooooove my huge screen, and my clear graphics card and my not having to scroll across the page to see the end of people's comments! love it! and, I also love that I can watch dvd's in bed! I can turn the italian language feature on, switch on english subtitles.... and fall asleep! hee hee!
What else? I met jasmine for dinner on wednesday, and then today, thursday, I had a meeting with one of the special research librarians to get some assistance with research for my major assignment! apparently, as a post graduate student you have a librarian assigned to you who can assist you with finding the info you need! how cool is that!
He was really helpful, and afterward, I decided to get some books out for my OTHER assignment, the methodologies in ancient art subject. I sent an email to my tutor for that, as I wasn't sure if the topic I want to do is acceptable. Anyway, go downstairs to borrow them, waiting and waiting in the line for the self check, and I notice the librarian is free. So I hop out of the line and go over there, and she said, 'we actually prefer you to use the self check. Have you used it before?' in this super condescending voice, and I'm thinking, of course you damn well prefer us to use it, it means YOU have less work! you're standing here arguing with me, when you could be done scanning them by now.
I explained that the line was really long and slow moving, and she suggested I use another self check machine in the reserve section, which I did, but it was like.... dude, isn't that part of your job? of course I know how to use it, do I look like a savant to you?! add to that, I bet she then was all, 'omg the line wasn't even that long!' to her librarian friends, hehe.
Anyway. After that, I had a coffee and a banana bread at the caf' as we used to call it when we were at uni. It cost me $4.90 for a regular coffee and a slice of banana bread. That's LESS than it costs for just a short caramel macchiato at starbucks! I love uni prices. But the best bit is the banana bread - our uni has the most epic banana bread ever. It's so, so good. It has that shiny glaze stuff on the top, and an actual caramelised banana stuck in it, yummm!
Then I drove to Hornsby to meet up with Alison after work. I had no idea the westfield there was so huge! I got her a card and a scratchie to celebrate her graduation tomorrow since I can't be there, and she gave me some samples and also 2 tops that she decided didn't suit her, apparently this is the week for free clothing! hehe!
We went to a restaurant in this kind of piazza in the middle of the complex, and sat in the sun and had a tappas plate - grilled capsicum, haloumi and potato with a tomato relish... and iced chocolate. Yummy! the sun was gorgeous actually, really warm It was overlooking this groovy water fountain clock thing as well -
Afterward we went shopping to see if we could find anything for Alison to wear tomorrow to her grad, but she didn't choose anything in the end. We also bought a present for her to take to a wedding she's going to on saturday. Honestly, I have never been to a wedding my whole life, and A has been to a kajillion. I'm guessing they'll suddenly happen all at once and I'll have 50 invites.
What else? Tomorrow I'm doing the morning shift, yay! that means I get to start the weekend at lunch time, isn't that so totally cool? of course, waking up so early is less of a joy.... and on that note! I should get ready for bed!
But before I do, I'll leave you with this cute thing willum has learnt to do - he's started begging! whenever I go anywhere near the fridge, he'll run over and push through your legs, and stand on his hind legs and generally get super excited because he knows you'll feed him. The other day I went and got a piece of cheese from the fridge, and he was so hysterical i had to show it to him, to prove it wasn't a strawberry or a sultana, which are his absolute favourite treat foods, barring anzac biscuits. He was really disappointed I didn't have anything for him, and after sniffing all over my piece of cheese, he was clearly all 'ok, that is so totally not what I wanted. Where's my treat?!'
He's too adorable for words. One day I'll have to get a video of how hysterical he gets about his treat food :)
night voxers!
It has been a very busy long weekend, and there is still more to come! since I have wednesdays and thursdays off from work now, I got an especially long weekend - wed, thur, fri, sat, sun and monday. Going back to work on tuesday is going to be a little bit hard!
Here is what I did with myself:
Friday
I completed and handed in 2 uni assignments, and went on a 4km bush walk at La Perouse. Afterward I got a softserve icecream covered in pink sherbert, just to relive some childhood memories, haha. I also spent quite a lot of time crocheting a beanie only to realise that the pattern I was using wasn't really all that great, so I had to rip everything out and start again. Most frustrating.
Saturday
I went shopping with my parents to some outlet stores in alexandria. I wasn't expecting to find anything, since they were sports type stores - my dad wanted a pair of tracksuit pants, but as it happened, one of the stores was a lacoste, ben sherman and northface outlet. I was really excited about how cheap the ben sherman stuff was - at least 50% off.
I hadn't intended to, but I bought a fairly netural, wool pencil skirt - it looks grey but in real life it's slightly more brown - and the checks are kind of charcoal. It's really versatile since i'll be able to wear it with brown or beige as well as with black. I also bought a shirt dress. I've always wanted one, but the good quality ones are too expensive, so I've never bothered.
Then in the evening, Jasmine wanted some assistance doing her hair and makeup, as she was doing something special for her bf Andrew's birthday. I did a smokey eye makeup look on her, I've never really done anyone's makeup before, although obviously I do my own all the time, so I as a bit nervous, but she has beautiful bone structure so she was quite easy to make up.
We drank wine and ate cheese and biscuits while I did her makeup, Celia did her nails bright red and we both helped her get dressed in a corset top and such, she looked absolutely gorgeous! When we were getting ready to leave, she gave me a dress that she'd bought - it was too short on her, and she didn't like the place where the belt sat, so she offered it to me! Here it is -
And...
Sunday
Today mum and I went for a walk in the park, followed by an egg hunt in the garden - mum hid 4 easter eggies for me, my dad and my sister, and after we'd found them, we each hid an egg for her to find. It was juvenile but who cares! I love egg hunts more than the chocolate actually, LOL.
After that, Anna and I went for breakfast in Surry Hills, at Bird, Cow Fish. To be honest I didn't enjoy it much, although it was very good value, but they only did fried and poached eggs, and I know I'm weird but I only really like scrambled eggs. Also, the bacon roll I got tasted like it was that kind of thin sliced, fried ham, the kind that has a spicy crust, so it was quite hot. It might have been the bbq sauce or the caramelised onions, but either way, it was a little too spicy for my liking. Plus, my eyes have been super itchy from either allergies to Willum's fur, or quite possibly from hay fever. I mean, so itchy, that you actually want to scratch your eyes out because it's so itchy. Well, I scratched and scratched until I'm pretty sure I dislodged the surface that was cut when I got laser eye surgery. It went all red and swollen and watery. It's much better now, I've put some drops in it and taken some allergy tablets, but I felt like everyone was staring at my creepy red eye, haha!
Tonight I'm supposed to be seeing Celia for dinner. I think I'd like Thai, so I shall have to see if I can persuade her!
Tomorrow? no idea whatsoever, I should probably get started on my uni work! I hope you all had a very happy and safe easter break!
okay! quick post today!
Last italian lesson today, it was a much smaller class so it was actually really good. Not sure whether I'll do another course though, since Im going to be more and more busy with uni work up until when I leave for Rome...
Got home today and there was a package from one of the girls from MUT! she had my address from secret santa a few years ago, so she sent me a whole heap of samples and things! how sweet is that! here's what she got me:
- postcard
- sally hansen hard as nails in grape pop
- la bello lip care stick in sweet melon
- martini jigstick
- blue and pink hair pins (which with my new fringe, I need ALL THE TIME! so super useful!)
- bottle of echt kolnisch wasser (cologne - it smells really good)
- mini bourjois eyeshadow box
- nivea creme
- 3 buttons (badges)
and samples of: - maybelline dream matte mousse
- the healing garden skin organics moisture lotion
- lise watier radiance moisturising day creme
- clinique superbalanced makeup teint
- nivea matt refine with rice
- nivea stay real makeup
I was so surprised and excited to get a parcel, and what a wonderful and thoughtful lot of things! I love getting things in the mail!
In other news? I'm now off work until next tuesday due to the Easter break (woohoo to that!) I have approximately 2000 words (or two thirds) of my "Relevance of Ancient Art to Modern Life" essay, and I got an sms from W who is hopefully going to help me with the very last part of my project plan! then I'd also like to start my next ancient art assignment and also get going on my special project about sensitivity within the museums industry.
So phew, sounds like a busy 6 days off, and not much of a holiday, especially adding in to that, I have to buy my sister a birthday present at some point, as she turns 27 next monday, and tomorrow my mum wants me to go with her to Bondi where she's having a job interview for some kind of knitting company.
Check out my gorgeous Grape Pop Nails!:
ahhh... coldplay lyrics :) I'm so annoyed, I attempted to write this on sunday night, and my computer crashed, and did not save any drafts. I was so irritated, I hate having to rewrite posts!
Here is what happened on the weekend.
Friday - cocktails with Anna, call from #2, passed out in their bed, let's not talk about it.
Saturday - super hungover (and I never seem to learn) breakfast slash lunch with Anna, then hired Legally Blonde and had a girly video night. By myself.
Sunday - walk in Centennial park with mum in the morning, then read the paper and my book in Hyde Park in the city while mum and dad bought zip-off pants from a hiking shop (the ones that you can turn into shorts - for their trip to Europe). Then I met up with them at the Quay for a cheese platter and drinks in the sun. The weather was incredible. Sunday night met up with the girls and had Thai for dinner, followed by Teascapes for tea.
This week is the first week of my reduced shifts, and I have soo much uni work to do! I have wed and thus off, so hopefully I can get a good bit of it done.
Anyway, that's it for me, I feel like I had way more to say in my previous version of this post, but now I can't remember! anyway, I need sleeeeep for tomorrow!
Ciao Voxxies!
It's been a really heavy week. Wednesday I stayed at W's. First we weent to Capitol Square and won two valentines day themed tofu toys and a funny looking bear holding a chicken. Then we got the train to W's area and had dinner at 'the Wenty' RSL club. We had only just finished dinner when he got a phone call - his soccer team had a practise match, and so we had to drive like mad things back to his house and grab his soccer things and race to the field.
It was absolutely freeeeeezing, and I was very grateful to have W's jumper from the car, along with my cardigan, and my pashima. Afterward we were both exhausted and pretty much went straight to bed and slept. On Thursday, I met Alison and we had breakfast and shopped for boots, and then after work, I had a networking evening, so my boss and I got a taxi to Bondi, and spent the evening talking about what we do in a kind of 'musical chairs' game, and lost my 'networking virginity'.
I slept really badly on thursday night, I guess I was just thinking about my assignment due this afternoon. Then today, I had the morning shift, and our computer kept turning off, so although I managed to get a good portion of my uni work done, I accidentally sent myself the wrong file in my rush to email it from my work address to my home email.
After work I rushed home and realised that I'd sent the wrong file, so I had to redo all the work I'd done! luckily it was only 500 words, so it didn't take me too long.
I was hoping that I would get to see W tonight, but he is doing something with his work friends and we had a terrible argument on the phone. I'm not really sure what will happen now - sometimes I feel sad that every person we have had some kind of relationship has imprinted on us - the past effects us in ways we could never imagine. It makes me wonder if I've become twisted and ruined by my past experiences.
I was watching the film of memoirs of a geisha, since I've been reading the book, although I enjoyed it, the book was much, much better. I stuffed myself with strawberry icecream and watched the movie, and now I think I'll go to bed and snuggle with the rabbit.
I just wish for so many things that I cant even explain.. Hopefully mey next post will be somewhat more cheerful!
Happy Australia day everyone :)
What have I been up to this long weekend?
Saturday I had breakfast with my sister, and then W called and asked if I wanted to come out his way for lunch with some of his friends to celebrate someone finishing their apprenticeship. So, I hopped on a train and W picked me up from the station. We went to the Merrylands RSL for an all you can eat lunch, and then went to W's friend Ben's house for beer, poker, yahtzee, taboo, moustrap and such, lol!
My plan was that I'd leave at around 6, get home around 7, 7:30. Instead, we got involved in an intricate drinking game and ended up getting a lift to W's house from Kari. On sunday, we'd planned on going to the zoo, but since I'd stayed over at W's without any stuff, we would have had to go all the way to my house, I'd get ready, then we'd head out to the zoo, etc, and I figured, by the time we do all of that, we'd get to the zoo too late.
So, the plan was to do it next weekend instead. I think W usually goes for work drinks on fridays, so maybe he can stay over friday night and we can go on saturday. I really really want to see the baby hippo that's on display there :D
Anyway. Instead of the zoo we went to parklea markets and wandered around. It was fun, but somehow really really exhausting. Anyway, W drove me home a bit later and I went out for dinner with Celia, since one of the J's was away on holiday, and the other was at work.
Anyway! monday! OZ DAY!
W and I had this epic BBQ at my house, and then we checked out the motorshow that the NRMA holds every year in the city. Originally we were supposed to be having a bbq out his way, but his friends were busy, so he came out to see me instead.
after looking at the motorshow, we drove down to coogee for coffee, which was really enjoyable. W left pretty early as he has work tomorrow.
There's some uni stuff going on atm as well, but I'm just too tired and annoyed about it to get into detail about it all, haha.
And, I'll try to update more often.
Night night voxers!
I promised B that I'd post up pics of what Aussie SB's cups look like. Our sleeves especially are different... I took some pictures with my phone. Here ya go:
and here is the photo I took of the instant camera picture they took of me and 'santa' at the cheer party:
And, as part of my room-tidying (and procrastination about that last 50 words of the essay!):
and, my DVD collection:
hehehe. Seriously, I'm going to go do that essay now :D
