Hmm what did I do this week? it was nice actually, monday after class was gelato in piazza di spagna, followed by a walk to the coloseum, followed by dinner at a restaurant called 'thank god it's friday' - it took me about 10 mins staring at the name (it was in italian) before I got it, and then I giggled to myself.
What else? another dinner on friday, since heaps of my class were leaving, boo! we had dinner in piazza navona and it was really fun, since one of the girls only speaks portuguese or italian, we had to speak in italian all night, which was fun, we had sangria and pizza (god I'm sick of pizza. It's all absolultely amazing but I'm soooo tired of it. I could murder a huge hurricanes cheese burger with avocado or a hogsbreath steak with avo on the side...)
then today my flatmate and I (Marisol, the new one from mexico - she's so cute, she brought beautiful frosted shotglasses from her home town for us, they have the famous aquaduct or her town in a clear glass design on the side!) went to capri!
woohoo! I went
with jas but we missed out on buying handmade shoes there and were
really disappointed, so this time I went back and got some! its so
much fun, you tell them the type of base you want (high heel or flat)
and then you pick the design of the straps you like from out the front
of the store, and then you pick the leather colours you prefer, and
they fit them for you - right there while you wait! they fit your foot
perfectly, because they measure your foot to fit the straps! here's some pics of the ones I chose:
I ended up getting two pairs, and then we went up on the funicular (a kind of train that goes up the side of the hill to the main part of Capri) and wandered around and shopped a little. Then we got a teeny tiny little bus to Anacapri, which is the top part of the island. The bus driver was such a lunatic on the way up, swerving around all these hairpin turns and blaring his horn and almost scraping the mountain on one side and a 2 km drop down to the sea on the other!
At a little cafe place in Anacapri had the most amazing Caprese sandwiches (tomato, basil and mozzarella) - of course CAPRI makes awesome CAPRESE sandwiches! but damn if it wasn't one of the best sandwiches I've ever eaten anywhere!
ha ha, I abosolutely loved this sign - because of course I came all the way to Capri for Real English Tea and Butter Toast!
The holiday house that used to belong to Aristotle Onassis (of Jackie O fame) is also up there, but I couldn't remember which one it was.
After that we went back down and had our last fitting for the shoes and then got the ferry home. It's a really long trek from Rome to Capri (1.5 hours on the train to Naples, then a 40 minute ferry to Capri) but it's totally worth it, I absolutely love that place! Especially the shoes!
well that's it from me!
Baccio Abbraccio! (kisses and hugs)

I am so damn exhausted! jesus. Every day I sightsee in this godforsaken country is like a marathon!
haha, yes, I'm somewhat tired, I walked home about 2-3km after a day of wandering around in the 30°C+ heat, so I might have gotten a little delusional! At the time it seemed like a better idea than waiting in the broiling sun for the bus, but that might have been the heat talking! hee hee!
Speaking of funny, check out the crazy old building I saw on my walk home, and this funny street sign!
So! quick update with what I've been doing!
Friday I ditched class in the afternoon and had some goodbye drinks with some of the people leaving, and then on saturday night I went out to Isola Tiberina, which is a tiny island in the middle of the tiber river, which has all these amazing outdoor restaurants and clubs. Lisa and I actually went to her hotel in the afternoon and swam in the pool, before getting ready in her room. We managed to get lost on our way to the Tiber and arrived having gone via The World, haha. It was so weird, there was this embassy building on our little jaunt that had these 2 armed guards standing out the front. They were dressed in army fatigues with Italian flag badges, combat boots, and they were carrying machine guns, all fairly normal, right? but get this - they were wearing green felt homburgs like those in Switzerland! most random thing ever!
Anyway! Isola Tiberina!
First we had dinner there and then afterwards we had wine and an apple flavoured shisha pipe, which I'd never done before! I lost my shisha virginity! - that particular bar was kind of turkish themed and had cushions and stuff.
It was really fun! the second club, an irish themed one near piazza navona was kind of awful though, just listen to this story:
We arrived and the bouncer said it was 10 euros entrance fee each. We all said no, since there were about 12 of us, and we thought it was too expensive. He then said, ok, I'll charge you 20 euros all together, as a tip for me, and let you all in. So we said yes, although it ended up being me paying 5 euros and a lot of people paying nothing. ANYWAY. seedy enough yes?
it was super crowded inside, like outrageous and super hot, and it turned out that the place was serving last drinks in less than 20 minutes. So we all scrambled to get served, and as I was at the bar, an English bloke who was clearly a bit tipsy asked me where I was from and told me we were going to get thrashed in the Cricket this weekend. I told him I didn't really care since i'm not interested in cricket, and that my parents are english anyway so it doesnt even bother me who wins in the slightest. He then proceeded to compliment me and asked where we were going next. I said I didn't know since i was just following my friends and he said if I was to tell him, would it be a fair trade off to purchase me a drink?
he then leaned forward to tell me something (I thought) and kissed me on the cheek, so I told him off, although he was totally harmless. Shortly after this, his girlfriend turns up! and gives me a huuuuge (totally justified) filthy! and so I turned around and just walked off, I could not believe his nerve, chatting me up while she was in the bathroom! EW!
but even worse, it turns out (after some girls in my group spoke to her) that someone had indecently assaulted her on the way to the bathroom, (then she came back to find her bf chatting up some random chick) AND, it was their first night in Rome, and the following day was their 1 year anniversary! That poor girl! I felt awful for her, and what a toolbag of a boyfriend! I told her about the Island and said she should go there if she wanted to do something romantic, so at least I somewhat redeemed myself!
so anyway, I then got the nightbus home which was crazy, the driver was a lunatic and went some crazy route at about 70 kmph but I got home in the end, at about 3:45am I think? The streets here feel pretty safe at least!
Anyway. Today I met Lisa (the friend from school who's leaving) and we were going to visit the vatican, but it was closed today! so we decided to visit villa Borghese, but we got there at 1:30 and the next available tour was at 5pm since the others were sold out! so we went to the Zoo inside the park of Villa Borghese and roasted in the sun. I got to see an armadillo though which was soooo cool! I got a video of it trundling around! (and honestly, it's a creature that definitely does trundle!)
I love the first picture of those donkey type creatures with their heads on each other's backs! they're apparently Onager or wild Asiatic ass, which frankly sounds like the name of a porno, not an animal! the last picture is the design I made with those funny sticky leaves, I always used to play with them when I was little!
On the weekends, I want to do loads of awesome trips but its so hard when youre alone. Cinque Terre is 5 hours on a train which is fine as a couple, you could go down on friday night and have a late dinner, check into your hotel, see the sights saturday and leave sunday night, but 10 hours there and back by myself sounds super depressing, so I havent booked anything.
Money wise I might as well be burning it because that's how I've been spending lately, I'm not even being flamboyant, it just happens!
I think that's about all that happened this week, god knows what monday will be like, cleaning out the fridge should definitely be on the list- ugh, the other day I took out a packet of eggs in there that were dated as mid last year! EW!
You know when you go out on friday night, which makes the whole weekend seem like a billion times longer?
well Jasmine had her farewell on friday, I met her after work for drinks at the hotel where she works. Then we met the girls at Crystal Bar, Martin place, and had pizza, cheese and a really nice L'Abruzzo red. Afterward we went to Martin Place bar for more cocktails and dancing to Mickey J. I can't believe the king of pop is really gone. If anyone ever asks me what I was doing the nightMichael Jackson died, I can tell them I was dancing to 'Blame it on the Boogie' in a bar in Martin Place. We got home around midnight, and then...
Saturday
Anna and I did a massive clean of the house - vaccuum, mopping, laundry, everything - so that my parents will come home to a really nice tidy house on wednesday. We went out for coffee at Centennial Park cafe, which has such a nice view, it's really been designed to make the best of the landscape.
Sunday
Anna and I had breakfast at Spicer Street Cafe in Woollahra, which was quite nice, I preferred her egg and bacon roll with cheddar and mayonaise to my organic porridge with strawberries, brown sugar and rhubarb, since mine was a bit too cold.
Afterward, I read the paper and had a nap, and then I met Celia for dinner.
We had thai, and OMG they have fortune cookies now! mine said:
a thrilling time is in your immediate future
woohoo! I hope they mean good thrilling, not bad thrilling!
It's been such a busy weekend!
Friday
In the morning, I went to MAC U to sell my text book, then I joined mum and dad in their taxi to the city and saw them off on their cruise, and then after work, W and I went out to Pontoon in Darling Harbour for one of his high school friend's birthday. Before I met up with W, I realised that I was wearing exactly the same thing I'd worn last time we saw these friends, and since it was only the second time we'd met, I figured I should maybe see if the shops had anything.
I went to World Square and was browsing around, and I found this bright orange dress, which was so cute! only thing was, it was really short. And I don't normally do super short, although I think I'm still young enough to get away with stupid outfits now and then. But I still wasn't sure, so I rang Jasmine, and she'd just finished work, so she came and judged the dress and we both decided it wasn't TOO short, so I bought it. $14.95. Bargain! W and I had Pizza Hut All you can Eat for dinner, and then met everyone at Pontoon. We left around 1:00, and got home around 1:30.
Saturday
We woke up really late, and then spent the rest of the morning with Willum. Then in the afternoon we drove out to Parramatta and went to the Hogs' Breath Cafe for lunch. I got the most awesome blacked steak with avocado on the side, curly fries, corn on the cob.... yuuuummm...
Then we swung by W's house, picked up some of his home brew, and went on to Bill's House in liverpool for a bbq, played poker and scrabble, watched some X-treme makeover (I love that show!) and the original Jaws movie...
We were going to stay over, but in the end we drove back to W's instead.
Sunday
W had Soundwave concert thing today, so I drove him to that down the road from his house at Eastern Creek, and then I drove home, kissed poor neglected Willum and went to meet Anna for lunch. Too funny, we were supposed meeting in the food court of Bondi Westfield, but Anna wanted my opinion on a dress, so I met her in the myer change rooms. When I was parking the car, I ended up right next to Anna's! who'd have thought?
Anyway, we had lunch at Kelly's, and then we bought a birthday present for one of Anna's friends, and I bought a pack of Tarot cards. It was funny, the woman from the store offered me a card when I was browsing and considering whether to buy the pack, and the one I got was 'Perfect Timing' - so I took it as a sign and bought the damn things, lol Afterward we went grocery shopping so I could buy my ingredients, and then I made baked potato soup (which is soooo good) and anzac biscuits, and now I'm eating strawberry icecream and watching Steel Magnolias.
Tomorrow I have to do my Italian homework, and it's also W's Dad's 60th birthday, so we're having dinner at their house. I'm taking some of the Anzac cookies with me. Phew! so busy!
Anyway. That's it from me! I have to put my leftover soup in the freezer and then get back to my southern Belles!
Ciao Voxers!
Yay! Christmas!
lol, funniest thing ever, so I went out to the Greystanes Inn last night to meet up with W, and we had a lovely time, leaving at around 10:00 ish. Turns out, an hour or so after we left, there was a huge brawl! check out the news story:

I'm never going to live this one down
Now, on to christmas! I hope everyone had a wonderful day, mine was lovely, just relaxing and fun. Here was the haul:
From M+D:
jim jams (the winter ones are from my grandma actually)
map of rome and rome guidebook (lol)
red tshirt
tiffany necklace
these hilarious underpants - the ones with the bows on are cute, and
then that denim pair are patterned to look exactly like short shorts -
I thought they'd look totally fake on, but really, they look EXACTLY
LIKE DENIM! disturbing!
italian cookbook
aaand
a facemask
from my sister:
2 mac shadows - honey lust and beauty marked
pink singlet top
OPI colour - Mimosas for Mr and Mrs (I ADORE this colour and the name especially!)
My friends and I are exchanging gifts next week
(seriously though, how creepy are those underpants!)
I logged into my gmail account the other day, and they asked me to change my 'theme' - so I changed it to 'tea house'.
I'm sure most people have noticed this many moons before I have, but it changes, depending on the time of day!
in the day time, the little fox does things like hang out washing, drink tea at the little table, or sails on the lake.
At night, little fox spirits come out and do various activities, while you can see the little fox asleep in bed! it's too cute. I found these pictures on google:
Yes, I know, I'm easily entertained! Last night I had a few drinks at the Ivy with Janna and some of her work associates...
I was hoping tofind a decent photo of the place, but I couldn't, so there's only the one I took.It was incredible. You have to walk down this tiny alley way to get to the steps to get inside. Then, you climb these big wide steps that made me think of a university or a library or something, and when you get to the top, it's like this whole other world. There are 2 undercover bars while the middle part is an open courtyard. There are several floors above the main one (we didn't go upstairs) and the courtyard is completely open. There is a big spiral staircase leading to the second floor, and in the middle of the courtyard is a japanese maple with fairy lights and lanterns hung in it.
It was so pretty! I hadn't made my mind up about the place, but apparently the VIP area is super exclusive (read: impossible to get into)
Then this morning, breakfast with Anna that was a bit disappointing... her poached eggs were overdone and my porridge was kind of salty in parts.
Other than that, I got my MUT secret santa gift in the mail! here is what I got:
I got a teapot and 4 cups, zen ikou tea (Japanese Green Tea, Passionfruit, Rose and Marigold Petals - smells heavenly and tastes lovely), jane iredale lip pencils in naughty, tasty, luscious, juicy and tempting, jane iredale facewashing mitt for makeup removal without soap, and also, not pictured, 2 mac eyeshadow colours - beautiful iris and da bling!
Phew! willum LOOOOOVED the box and spent a lot of time sniffing it and marking it, haha!
that's about it from me!
As per every year, my definitive list of birthday gifts starts here.
My birthday wasn't really anything special this year, but I did enjoy it. On friday, my boss organised for the office to come into the board room and we had cake and tea and coffee. They gave me a card and a gift voucher for a women's clothing store. AND she gave me a one hour early mark!
then on saturday I went out with the uni girls for spanish food. Alison stayed overnight and we had breakfast on my birthday. It was really nice, just sitting in the sun and chatting.
Here is what I got:
From my Sister
Armand Basi perfume - "red" (it took us ages to choose. It's quite gingery and different.)
From my parents
- Garmin GPS watch forerunner 205 (can't wait to train with it!)
- bunny statue. I saw it and really loved it, I was just drawn. I usually hate that kind of dustcatching stuff, but I really wanted it!
- korres brand olive pit scrub (AWESOME stuff, really scrubs and moisturises too!
- mango and blossom body lotion (just a cheap brand but it smells really great!)
- sauna masque red hot earth for anti stress

- korres firming eye cream sample
- lindt chocolate 3 pack (I will keep these in my desk drawer at work)
From my Grandma
a cheque for $200. I love you grams!
From my friend Alison
- this awesome makeup book - Rae Morris 'Makeup - the ultimate guide' - there are some really awesome looks done step by step in here, and some interesting product info too. Can't wait to have a good read of it.
- UFO sherbet lollies. My faves. I've eaten them all now, LOL
- home made Eurovision song contest 2008 CD (it's a 'thing' that we love to do/watch together, LOL)
And from my friend Celia and her BF... a huuuge bunch of flowers. Just one of the perks of having an awesome florist as a friend, LOL. Lillies, cherry blossom and swiss cheese plant leaves.
Here is a close up of the rabbit face - I was just totally attracted to this funny little smile!
And some funny photos from Saturday night with the girls:
hee hee!
