Alright! one night left in Sydney! I can do this! It's a bit late to back out now, and to quote Till West ft. DJ Delicious (Same Man) -
I am ready and I am out the door
(Well, tomorrow anyway, LOL)
Today mum and I had our last walk in the park, which was really nice, followed by my last breakfast with Anna at Bittons. We rather foolishly ordered bowls of coffee. They looked like this:
Then we drove over to Bondi to grab some last minute birthday presents for my friends - I have 2 friends who are having birthdays while I'm away, so I got them a mailable present that I will take with me to italy, and send from there with an italian card :)
Mum and dad have gone out for a while, so I'm just hanging around waiting for them to get back so I can do a bit more packing. I have quite a lot left to do, so I'm using this as some time to get the smaller things I'd been putting off done.
Anyway. Dinner with Celia tonight - last one! EEEEK!
ciao voxies!
I have so many things to tell, that i don't even know where to start!
my day off this week was tuesday, and I went into the city with Anna and mum. They were going to the art gallery, and I had plans to meet up with an old fitness first work colleague, Lyly, for shopping and coffee.
I had some time before I had to meet up with L, and Anna and mum were in no hurry, so we stopped in martin place. We saw a sign for the Australian Currency Museum at the reserve bank - I think it must be new since I've never seen it. It was really interesting, seeing all the designs that were put forth for our currency and stuff in the past - there was a really cute cartoon that was on tv in the 60s telling people about the change to decimal currency, and apparently the plan was to call our bank notes 'royals' although they eventually settled on dollars!
Anyway. It was interesting for me from a professional point of view, if you follow me.
Outside the hospital near martin place is a large brass pig, and it's nose is all shiny because you are supposed to rub it's nose and make a wish. After we'd done that, we went to the cafe in the courtyard of the old hospital in the sun. It was really nice to have a chat and to feel the warmth of the sun on my skin.
I left them after that to go to the art gallery and I wandered really slowly up to the QVB to meet L. She's very chatty, but also full of philosophical comments - she always seems so clear sighted, which is a wonderful gift. We window shopped and then had dinner at City Extra.
Then today I worked in the morning, and tonight I went to see Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince with Anna and Mum. I loved it. I thought it was by far the best movie so far - the story line followed what I remembered of the book but also made sense overall. I found some of the earlier movies were quite disjointed and too much of the story was missing for them to make any sense, but this one was really good. I'm looking forward to the last movie, which is going to be divided into two parts.
After the movie we had dinner at Nino's, which is an italian restaurant with an amazing view all the way across from Bondi to the harbour bridge.
Anyway, so now I'm in bed with the electric blanket on watching 'spirited away' - I love that Miyazaki films are all about learning to be independent and yet also relying on the help and friendship of the people you meet - about being adaptable and creating a family out of nothing. It gives me hope that my transition into Italian society won't be impossible or too painf
while i recognise that my trip should be amazing, awesome, and that I will learn more than i can even imagine right now, I also forsee difficulties, lonliness and hardship, although I'm stepping out of my comfort zone entirely - some difficulty in adjusting is completely reasonable!
I guess I'm just hoping that I can make the most of the lessons that will be thrown at me, and that I'll make the most of this amazing experience.
Anyway, that's enough rambling from me, I want to snuggle with my baby and fall asleep.
Night voxies!
Yay!
my parents returned from their trip to europe today!
Eyeroll though, their flight was massively delayed, which was so frustrating, we got to the airport at 6:30 am, but their flight was delayed until 10:05 am! what the!
anyway, I helped them unpack and heard about their trip, and they gave me a few little gifts:
Mum thinks I should frame it. I think it'd look nice with a mushroom coloured backing sheet and a really dark brown frame, but I wont get it done until I return from Europe myself.
Then the kilt/tartan skirt that they ordered should be showing up fairly shortly... so my waiting list is currently:
bunny tshirt
tourist shorts
pink usb drive that's taking a bajillion years to arrive
kilt/tartan skirt
It's good to have them back. Anna's come over to get her gifts and have dinner with us, which is nice, but I've been put in charge of collecting the take away pizza, so that's it from me!
ciao voxies!
So last night mum and I went to the festival of lights in the city. It wasn't really all that impressive, but i got some ok photos!
what else? my parents are leaving tomorrow, sob. Anna and I are supposed to be going to a new place for breakie on sunday, can't wait to see if its any good, it was a suggestion from the same person as last week's breakfast rec, which was great, so hopefully its nice.
And saturday night, Jasmine wants to have a few drinks. I might go for one or two - havent been out for ages.
Then today, i got a sample of Lancome Genifique Youth Activator today! the benefits and joys of Myer One!
I was so frustrated about a specific online drama I'm experiencing that I also had to go try on some Loubou's (Christian Louboutin shoes) in David Jones - it helped!
Also, I've been reading the Riley Jensen 'Guardian' book series all over again. I really want to read some of the new ones - maybe I'll organise to get dymocks vouchers from valuedopinions.com - they offer reward vouchers for completed surveys. I never know which vouchers to get so my money always piles up.
anyway. Ciao for now! xox
So this morning after a walk in Centennial park with my mum, Anna and I tried a new breakfast spot. We went to Bitton in Erskinville. It was really different and delicious, and the dog from the table next to ours sat under our chairs and ate some of my sister's bacon. Too cute.
After that, Anna drove me back home and mum and I drove into the city to go to the Primo Italiano Festival. It was mostly music and food, and since I'd stuffed myself, I didn't want to eat anything, but there was lots of atmosphere, and some delicious looking foods. The other thing was, there were HEAPS of Italian restaurants down there behind the Australian Museum, that I'd never seen before, and some of them looked great!
poor mum!
