This morning Marisol and I went to the post office to send off another huge box, and then went for fragolini pastries at Romoli. Last time we went in there, I lost my knitting request virginity when the barrista asked me if I'd make him a hermione hat! We were kind of taken aback so we said I was leaving shortly so I wouldn't have time to finish one, but since I'm going to be here another 5 or so weeks, it's going to be kind of awkward going back there, which totally sucks since their pastries are to die for!
speaking of hermione hats, I finally finished Marisol's! here it is:
Yesterday I bought a pair of Levi super skinny 603's! I 'm super excited because they fit my legs as well as my ass! in Australia, when I buy skinny jeans, they are too baggy on the leg if they fit me on the ass, or too tight on the hips and butt if they fit my legs. But... check out the wonder of jeans fitting my body shape!!!
Tomorrow is Marisol's farewell dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe and then Saturday we're off to Venice! bring it on!
Other than that I'm still struggling with a pattern for a cowl, I wanted something kind of lacy and saw a few I liked but the pattern really just didn't work out for me. So boo. I think I'll do my own pattern, so much easier I think!
AND! I spoke to my grandma and have 'booked in' a trip to see her for the first two days I'm in London - arrive in the morning, go straight from the plane to the train, get to her house in the evening, make her dinner, do some knitting, and then leave the following afternoon. Now I just have to buy the tickets!
Then I can spend the rest of the week doing whatever I like, and whatever I like is going to involve a lot of shopping, museums, and burgers! woohoo! can't wait!
Yesterday was my two-month-aversary in Italy! After work I met M in the pouring rain and we went and ordered my diary from Cartoleria Pantheon! This shop has two outlets quite close together, on the streets leading away from the Pantheon. They have beautiful hand made papers and gorgeous leather bags that I would die to own, if I actually had room to transport them home, which I don't!
Anyway. I went in after work on monday and they said they'd need to speak to the factory about the particular diary I wanted since they were out of stock, and suggested I come back Tuesday. When I went back yesterday, they said yes, no problem, and I was able to order the style I wanted, in the colour I wanted, with a curly, gold letter R in the front, all finished and ready for collection by sunday this week or tuesday next week! I am so excited to collect it, I chose a chocolate brown, with a kind of wrap around cover. As soon as I have it in my hot little hands I will share it with you. It also includes the diary inside, one day to a page, and it will fit a standard A5 diary, so I can keep on using it, hopefully for many years to come.
While I was waiting in a bookshop out of the rain for M to arrive, I found these cute little calendars, where each page is actually a bookmark with 2 months on it. It was the same brand as the 16 month diary she bought, which I thought was adorable. The only thing that stopped me from buying the diary myself was that it wasn't A5 size, so I was really happy I could buy this cute little bookmark calendar instead! I thought I could use them as page markers in my diary as well.
After we'd sorted out the diary, we went to see the rain coming through the hole in the Pantheon, but it wasn't heavy enough to see anything. They were preparing for a wedding in there! can you imagine being married in a building like that?!
Then we went to Tazzo D'Oro (the Golden Cup) for cappuccinos. According to the guidebooks, Tazzo D'Oro is supposed to be one of the best coffee places in Rome. It's located just down from the Pantheon. We liked the hearts they put on our foam!
It was raining so hard that I bought a pair of blue gumboots on the way home, but of course today is clear and I don't have the chance to wear them. This weekend is supposed to be rainy again though, so high five to splashing in puddles. I don't think I've owned gumboots since I as 6 years old!
I made garlic croutons to have in my pumpkin soup, it was really really nice, and somehow I always crave soup when it's miserable outside.
We bought Duff beer too - it's a really touristy gimmick here, and we really wanted to try it! It wasn't actually too bad.
I made this pasta tonight! it turned out pretty okay I think, although a dash of whole grain mustard would have been nice...
SERVES ONE
1-2 smallish potatoes, quartered
pesto sauce
handful or two of farfalle pasta
a few sundried tomatoes, chopped into bits
dash (very small dash) of lemon juice
boil the pasta and potatoes until both are just on the edge of being soft. A slightly harder potato works well here, def. don't overcook. Probably around about 10 minutes or so. Then, drain and mix with the pesto, lemon juice and sun dried tomatoes, and stick in the fridge or freezer until cool.
Serve. Tada!
anyway. Directly after work we went for a few drinks at this place that does an epic tiramisu. Check these out:
I got pics of the tiramisu as well but it didn't look all that exciting, so one of the cocktails instead! I got that pink one - strawberry pina colada! high five for getting caught in the rain!
buona notte for now,

my good friend Celia told me I should take advantage of the wonderful breakfast pastries here. I've been living in Italy for 7 weeks now, and am ashamed to say, had not tried a single pastry. The thought of eating something so sickeningly sweet so early in the morning just doesn't do it for me.
But today, I had a bit of time before I started work, and I thought, why the hell not. SO! Check it!
but in my mind, there is something that trumps pastries any day of the week....
can't really start the day much better than that, right?
Annnndd... knitting update! check this out! my 'baby' HP Azkaban scarf is just over half finished!
anyway, that's about all the news from me,
ciao voxies!

I just had to post today - couldn't miss the epic date combo!
Today after school Carla's boyfriend Giuseppe brought their new puppy, Borgo, to visit! he was just about the cuuuutest thing i had ever seen, only 2 months old, he was so fluffy and still kind of bendy, like his bones were too new! he was like a teeny tiny sack of cuddly cement, and apart from licking my face, he chewed on everyone's fingers and my tiffany necklace. Cutest thing ever.
once we tore ourselves away from the cutest dog on the planet, Marisol and i went for burgers and coronas at the hardrock cafe, and then for ice cream from San Crispino near the Trevi - I got honey and raspberry. Honestly that honey flavour could make you cry, that's how good it tastes.
We walked down to via del corso, then along to the spanish steps and got the metro home from there... I can tell I'm going to be sooo exhausted tomorrow, can't believe it's my second last day of school so soon! how did this happen!
tomorrow we're supposed to be seeing the Proposal (in italian) after school. Should be fun!
ciao voxies,

This afternoon and evening was probably one of the best since I've been here. Today I woke up with an awful sore throat, so I didn't go to my morning classes, but I felt pretty okay by this afternoon and went to my afternoon class, which was a fun one.
It is absoultely gorgeous in that area, and we had such a good time. We got to try Porchetta in Nemes, which is basically a type of cured/slow baked pork covered in spices and garlic and herbs. It was delicious! we also got to try fragolini, which is the name for tiny wild strawberries. I'd had them in Switzerland when I was little, and they are much nicer fresh than they are bought like we had them today, but still, they're gorgeous, very sweet.
After taking hundreds of pictures of the beautiful view, we went for dinner at an awesome restaurant. We had a huge U-shaped table and wine and water included in the meal. Two of the students who came are on their honeymoon, so they were seated at the head of the table and we toasted them in Italian. It's also traditional to yell 'baccio baccio baccio' to get the couple to kiss, and of course we did this as well!
We had the most amazing food, there were fried artichokes, crumbed, fried riceballs with tomato and mozarella inside, fried zucchini flowers stuffed with cheese, and a few other unidentifiable but totally delicious things, not to mention the pizza!
at the end we had a chocolate, ricotta and banana pizza. Delicious! and, there was a bird sitting on one of the chairs in the restaurant!
Anyway, as per usual we got back really late. I never seem to have any time to sleep! and tomorrow my sore throat will be back and I'll feel awful, haha!
Oh well, you know what they say - you can sleep when you're dead!
I'll leave you with these gorgeous pictures of the sunset. Ciao voxies!
I was so busy on friday! first, I got all my waxing done at a new place in randwick that celia gave me a voucher for as a birthday present. Afterward, mum and I had coffee and tiny little cakes at a place in the Spot in the sun. I saw people sitting there as I drove past the other day, and thought how nice it would be to sit in the sun and relax over a cup of coffee, so I asked mum if we could go on friday afternoon, so we did! these are the cakes I got:
Then we walked up to randwick and did some shopping. I bought 2 tshirts and 2 pairs of mesh underwear to take away with me. I've packed them though, so no photos. I really wanted a photo with this huuuuge table and chair set in the baby shop in the shopping centre so you get to see that instead, lol!
anyway. We got back and started sorting out my packing. Basically, I decided to put everything into plastic ziplock bags, so that all my undies are together, all my tshirts are in one bag, my smart skirts in another etc.
This is what it looks like as of right now:
I'm down to the things I rarely wear now, that dress is about 6 years old I think. The belt and shrug are probably about 5 years, and so are the shoes.. I was thinking I won't want to wear anything too revealing in Italy, so friday was the last night the girls will have out on the town, LOL
I really like this photo of my sister and I:
we had a lovely dinner at Gazebo - we basically chose a whole lot of entree plates and shared. We had dip and bread, cheese, prosciutto, kipfler potatoes with chorizo sausage and rosemary, a luxury sausage roll with veal and something else sausage and a chunky fig chutney and goodness knows what else.
We had pink sangria and finished off with a chocolate fondue. All the most important people came, although I was somewhat irritated that some people didn't even bother to say they weren't coming. It would have taken 2 minutes to say 'I'm really sorry but I have xyz to attend on friday, so I won't be able to make it. Have a wonderful trip' It's one of those things where you think, why on earth am I friends with these people, who really have no involvement in my life anymore, despite repeat invitations and such - I was talking to Lyly the other day and she said to me, there are so many opportunities to read the signs in our lives and yet so often we ignore them. Well this time the signs seem pretty obvious to me, and I can see myself slowly extricating myself from having anything further to do with them. Not in an unpleasant way, but just quietly sliding out of their lives.
After that we went to Sugar Mill which was mediocre but had quite reasonable prices for drinks - Gazebo charged me $9.50 for a bombay sapphire and tonic, although it was excellent quality, but seriously, almost $10?!
Then the parents and I went shopping at randwick, dropped off 2 pairs of shoes I want to take to Italy for reheeling, and got some lunch. We came back home and sat in the garden with willum in the sun.
I also sorted out all my paperwork that I'm taking with me overseas, printed copies for mum and dad, and generally organised a few loose ends including booking our hotel in Rome.
Tonight we're having a family dinner with Gougère (choux cheese pastry surrounding a kind of tomato and mince meat sauce in the middle) with (groan) moet to celebrate my iminent departure, then tomorrow, walk in the park with mum, breakfast with anna, final packing, dinner with Celia. Phew. Busy!
And I've been meaning to say for a few days now, on wednesday on my way to work, I saw the stars of the aussie comedy show 'Fat Pizza' getting ready to film in Pitt Street Mall! exciting times!
anyway, that's it for now, ciao voxies!
Ohhhhh My last day was lovely.
This morning I went to the dentist and had a quick final checkup. Then, back home, out again to collect a bajillion prescriptions from the pharmacy.
Then onto the bus to work.
They took me out to lunch at Medusa's which is a really lovely Greek restaurant quite close to work. Everyone shared entrees of pickled vegetables, olives, haloumi cheese, spicy sausages and pita bread with tzatziki dip, and then chose their own mains. I had lamb souvlaki. Delicious:
Then when we got back, we had a coffee and cake!
I also got these really cute pictures of me and willum. I was feeding him raisins. And, haha, you can see I dressed in the Italian colours for my last day at work!
What else? tomorrow is my big waxing day and my farewell with friends. I'm so exhausted at the moment, I have a feeling I'm coming down with the flu! it totally sucks, I really cannot afford to get sick at this point, so I'm totally going all out with the ecchinacea and immune boost tablets. Anyway! I'm off to bed!
Ciao voxies!
I made Pilaf rice for the first time tonight! I was pretty proud of myself, apart from some sticking to the bottom of the pan it turned out pretty good!
My dad makes this dinner every friday so it was really nice to follow the normal routine while they are away. I love my sausages burnt by the way, it wasn't accidental, lol!
and I'm drinking hot green tea now. Except it's cold. But it's also tasty. Makes me more thirsty! Tomorrow Anna and I are supposed to be going for a walk. I suppose I should go to sleep now but I'm not tired.
Ok! that's it! I'm going to sit in bed with my Angels and Demons book and my rabbit and read until I fall asleep.
Good night!

Today I got my assignment almost-done! you know, that point where it's so little left, that you're excited about going back to doing it, because it won't be long before it's DONE done!
Then tonight my sister and I went to see 'the Proposal' with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds.
It was. Hilarious. SO funny. Ryan Reynolds is gorgeous in it, and I was so jealous of Sandra's bags and shoes (birkins and louboutins respectively). Anyway. When she started chanting 'Get Low' by lil Wayne, I laughed til I cried.
Part of the special Screening of The Proposal that we saw including a goodies bag! we got the latest copy of Grazia magazine, some chocolate and a book about cocktails! Bargain!
Also, my parker pen arrived! yay! so now I'm wait on:
- camera case
- mini usb drive
- mini post it notes
- tartan skirt (although that won't be here til mid July)
I also had a bit of a photoshoot with Willum. I got some really cute pictures of us! I'm creating a folder of photos of him to take away to Italy with me.
