My sister left this morning. I really enjoyed having her here, and I already miss her a lot! it's really hard saying goodbye to people so many times in such a short period, but would I give up the enjoyment of the last 10 days with her here for a few tears when she left? No, I wouldn't.
Last night we did a bit of shopping and then went for dinner in Piazza Navona, which was beautiful but freezing.
Then this morning we had breakfast at termini together and I helped her onto the train to Fumicino. And now I'm back at work. It looks like the next few days/weeks will be quite busy, although I'm actually quite tired so I'd prefer a break.
I did a major clean out of stuff when Anna was packing to leave, and threw a lot out as well as cramming quite a lot of stuff into her suitcase. I still have HEAPS of things I want to post back home though, as I haven't even bought christmas presents and it would be nice to get the girls some pretty things from here. It's going to cost me a fortune to get it all home but what can you do? I'll be wearing a lot of it I think though, because I am freezing and it's only October!
what else? supposedly dinner at the ridiculous hour of 9pm at a mexican place tonight, possibly the vatican this weekend, and there is the film festival next week or the week after, and we also need to book venice if we're going to go....AND! I need a bodkin to sew the ends in on my hat and when (if) I finish my scarf I have to sew those in as well. I might go to the yarn shop today and see what they have. I do love that place, although taking all these needles and yarn home will be hard as well!
anyway, that's it from me!
ciao a presto!
Alright! one night left in Sydney! I can do this! It's a bit late to back out now, and to quote Till West ft. DJ Delicious (Same Man) -
I am ready and I am out the door
(Well, tomorrow anyway, LOL)
Today mum and I had our last walk in the park, which was really nice, followed by my last breakfast with Anna at Bittons. We rather foolishly ordered bowls of coffee. They looked like this:
Then we drove over to Bondi to grab some last minute birthday presents for my friends - I have 2 friends who are having birthdays while I'm away, so I got them a mailable present that I will take with me to italy, and send from there with an italian card :)
Mum and dad have gone out for a while, so I'm just hanging around waiting for them to get back so I can do a bit more packing. I have quite a lot left to do, so I'm using this as some time to get the smaller things I'd been putting off done.
Anyway. Dinner with Celia tonight - last one! EEEEK!
ciao voxies!
I have so many things to tell, that i don't even know where to start!
my day off this week was tuesday, and I went into the city with Anna and mum. They were going to the art gallery, and I had plans to meet up with an old fitness first work colleague, Lyly, for shopping and coffee.
I had some time before I had to meet up with L, and Anna and mum were in no hurry, so we stopped in martin place. We saw a sign for the Australian Currency Museum at the reserve bank - I think it must be new since I've never seen it. It was really interesting, seeing all the designs that were put forth for our currency and stuff in the past - there was a really cute cartoon that was on tv in the 60s telling people about the change to decimal currency, and apparently the plan was to call our bank notes 'royals' although they eventually settled on dollars!
Anyway. It was interesting for me from a professional point of view, if you follow me.
Outside the hospital near martin place is a large brass pig, and it's nose is all shiny because you are supposed to rub it's nose and make a wish. After we'd done that, we went to the cafe in the courtyard of the old hospital in the sun. It was really nice to have a chat and to feel the warmth of the sun on my skin.
I left them after that to go to the art gallery and I wandered really slowly up to the QVB to meet L. She's very chatty, but also full of philosophical comments - she always seems so clear sighted, which is a wonderful gift. We window shopped and then had dinner at City Extra.
Then today I worked in the morning, and tonight I went to see Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince with Anna and Mum. I loved it. I thought it was by far the best movie so far - the story line followed what I remembered of the book but also made sense overall. I found some of the earlier movies were quite disjointed and too much of the story was missing for them to make any sense, but this one was really good. I'm looking forward to the last movie, which is going to be divided into two parts.
After the movie we had dinner at Nino's, which is an italian restaurant with an amazing view all the way across from Bondi to the harbour bridge.
Anyway, so now I'm in bed with the electric blanket on watching 'spirited away' - I love that Miyazaki films are all about learning to be independent and yet also relying on the help and friendship of the people you meet - about being adaptable and creating a family out of nothing. It gives me hope that my transition into Italian society won't be impossible or too painf
while i recognise that my trip should be amazing, awesome, and that I will learn more than i can even imagine right now, I also forsee difficulties, lonliness and hardship, although I'm stepping out of my comfort zone entirely - some difficulty in adjusting is completely reasonable!
I guess I'm just hoping that I can make the most of the lessons that will be thrown at me, and that I'll make the most of this amazing experience.
Anyway, that's enough rambling from me, I want to snuggle with my baby and fall asleep.
Night voxies!
Hurrah! myer was having a stocktale sale, so after lunch at max brenner's, anna and I had a look around and I ended up with:
This gorgeous cotton hippie kind of dress, $67.95 (reduced from like $110)
2 freya bras (normally $100 ish each) for $36.95 and $41.25 each! bargain!
2 pairs of underwear, $18.95
sample of chanel day cream
So, with the lingerie, for the price of 1 standard price freya bra, I got 2 pairs of knickers and 2 bras! I was stoked!
The dress has little bells on the waist tie, and if you pull it up you can wear it as a shorter dress. I think it looks less baggy and fattening in real life, lol! It's one of those items that feels really good on - there are silver threads in the material so it suits my metallic gladiator sandals really nicely. It's the type of dress I can imagine flapping in the breeze in Capri as Jasmine and I luxuriate in the warm sun with a cocktail!
I'm going out with Anna and Wendy tonight, so that's it from me!
Ciao voxies!
I had another busy weekend! Let's start with
Friday
I swapped shifts and worked in the morning, and after work I walked across the bridge to Pyrmont and met Anna at her school. I got left in the staffroom for a while, and then after lunchtime ended, we went to Anna's class.
It's been a while since I've been around ANY kids, let alone like, 20 of them. They called me 'Miss Shaw #2' and I had forgotten how much touching and poking and moving and such that small children do. Like, get off me, stop TOUCHING, LOL.
Seriously though, they were totally cute! I told them about my upcoming italy trip (my sister wanted me to give them news) and they asked me relevant questions, such as - what's your favourite colour? how old are you? what's your favourite colour? favourite car? animal? etc.
I helped them with some numeracy and literacy and probably scarred them for life, haha! afterward, Anna and I went to Darling harbour for gin and tonic, followed by burgers at Hurricanes! epic!
They have these crazy flames behind a glass wall -
Then we went to bondi and watched 'the proposal' again, god that movie is just so funny, and RR is unbelievably gorgeous! seriously! his character is such a perfect catch - loves his job, (has a job!) good work ethic, gorgeous, dresses nicely, has rich, lovely parents, likes animals, loves to travel... what's not to like!
Saturday was boring, but then on Sunday mum and I went for a walk in the park, then i had a late breakfast with Anna in Newtown. Then we hired twilight and laughed at how badly acted the movie was. She's just started reading the books so she wanted to see the film. It's even worse on a small screen than it is at the movies! too funny.
The teapot at the place we had breakfast had these cool handles on the teastrainers that had letters - funnily enough mine was an R (for Rosie):
anyway. I'm off for dinner with Celia now, so ciao voxies!
Yay!
my parents returned from their trip to europe today!
Eyeroll though, their flight was massively delayed, which was so frustrating, we got to the airport at 6:30 am, but their flight was delayed until 10:05 am! what the!
anyway, I helped them unpack and heard about their trip, and they gave me a few little gifts:
Mum thinks I should frame it. I think it'd look nice with a mushroom coloured backing sheet and a really dark brown frame, but I wont get it done until I return from Europe myself.
Then the kilt/tartan skirt that they ordered should be showing up fairly shortly... so my waiting list is currently:
bunny tshirt
tourist shorts
pink usb drive that's taking a bajillion years to arrive
kilt/tartan skirt
It's good to have them back. Anna's come over to get her gifts and have dinner with us, which is nice, but I've been put in charge of collecting the take away pizza, so that's it from me!
ciao voxies!
So, I'm officially venti quattro anni. Today was fun. At work, I got strawberry cheesecake, a fluffy scarf and hat, an adorable pink card with a bunny and cupcakes on it, and an early mark.
Then my friends came over and Jasmine made us roast. As per usual, I'll list my haulings, accompanied by photos!
my grandma:
$200 cheque.
My parents:
my own tarot book to go with my mini-tarot deck.
3 piece jammies set
(they also paid for a lot of my mini laptop, and they're bringing me back a woolen skirt in my clan tartan from their trip to europe that probably cost them an arm and a leg )
my sister:
'woodsmoke' country road bag - I'm stoked about this one, I'm using it as hand luggage and it's almost an exact match for my suitcase
$20 bookstore voucher! yay! books for the plane!
My friends:
J
this gorgeous bag that she said was for 'school' in italy - it's so ME! and it fits my laptop and loads of books and rolls up pretty flat! perfect!
silicone, heatshaped cupcake moulds. Can't wait to try them out!
C (the florist)
these beautiful flowers
voucher for eyebrow, brazilian and underarm wax! I told her I needed/wanted these before I leave for europe
pyjamas with cupcakes on
My work:
matching scarf and hat set. They're really fuzzy/warm!
That's it from me! night from your newly mid 20's blogger! ciao voxies!
It's been such a busy weekend, poor little willum has been left at home alone for most of it! On saturday I went for a walk with my sister in the park, followed by coffee with some of her teaching friends. After that, I went home, made cute mini pizzas and was all ready to watch some tv and turn in early when # 2 called and asked if I wanted to go out for dessert. 12 Degrees outside? naaaah. So instead he came over and we drank wine and chatted and what have you.
Then this morning, my sister REALLY wanted to buy an electric throw blanket, lol! so after breakfast at Martini cafe in Erskinville, which Anna's friend recommended, but turned out to be somewhere we'd been before, we went to Bondi.
She bought 2 pairs of stockings, 'The Electric Throw' a pair of gorgeous soft leather gloves and some new black flats. I restrained myself and instead lay-buyed this gorgeous pair of Guess pumps. They're so cute, they have little tabs on the back of each heel that have gold 'g's on for Guess! Very exciting, I totally lost my lay-buy virginity!
as soon as I raid my piggy bank I'll be able to bust them out! hehe. I also really liked the new versace fragrance, Versace Versence -
I got this picture on my sister's phone of the sun-set, it looked really Sistine Chapel esque! hehe!
Anyway, I asked the girls to come to my house tonight since I've spent all weekend out of the house and Willum is lonely, so I better go now! ciao Voxies!
Today I got my assignment almost-done! you know, that point where it's so little left, that you're excited about going back to doing it, because it won't be long before it's DONE done!
Then tonight my sister and I went to see 'the Proposal' with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds.
It was. Hilarious. SO funny. Ryan Reynolds is gorgeous in it, and I was so jealous of Sandra's bags and shoes (birkins and louboutins respectively). Anyway. When she started chanting 'Get Low' by lil Wayne, I laughed til I cried.
Part of the special Screening of The Proposal that we saw including a goodies bag! we got the latest copy of Grazia magazine, some chocolate and a book about cocktails! Bargain!
Also, my parker pen arrived! yay! so now I'm wait on:
- camera case
- mini usb drive
- mini post it notes
- tartan skirt (although that won't be here til mid July)
I also had a bit of a photoshoot with Willum. I got some really cute pictures of us! I'm creating a folder of photos of him to take away to Italy with me.
I started off quite well today, I got through a LOT of my paper, and I'm now over the word limit, but I still haven't started talking about one of my 5 themes (Indigenous culture), I don't have any information on it, and it will require about 1500 words minimum. I'm tossing up leaving it out all together, but I'm worried about not being able to get in contact with my supervisors prior to the due date, which is this friday. We'll see. I'll call them tomorrow.
At noon I called Anna and need a break so we went to Bondi and had burgers from Hurricanes. On the way to the car we passed this sign for a shop -
the hurricane burgers are sooooo good. I got a cheese one with avocado. Drool.
Anyway. I suppose now I should start thinking about making dinner, or getting on with my assignment. Sigh. So over it!
